D.A.R.E.S. – Strategy for creating a successful business model, particularly for building & monetizing a personal brand. It is a test to determine the viability & profitability of a business model based on five criteria: Digital, Automated, Recurring, Evergreen & Scalable.
(Nearly impossible for a business to meet all 5 criteria perfectly, as some are in direct opposition. Goal is to evaluate potential business ideas against the DARES framework to understand their strategic Strengths & Weaknesses, ultimately helping entrepreneurs choose the Best model for their specific Objectives.

Digital Digital product or service is often preferred because it removes the barriers of physical inventory & distribution. Digital businesses can be delivered globally with low overhead costs.
Automated Ability to automate business processes, such as Advertising, Marketing, Enrollment & Fulfillment, to reduce manual effort. An automated business allows the owner to “Multiply Their Time” by creating systems that generate revenue without their constant involvement.
Recurring Recurring revenue models, like subscriptions or memberships, create predictable income streams. This contrasts with a one-off sale, which requires constant effort to acquire new customers. However, a recurring service often requires ongoing updates & maintenance, which can challenge the “Evergreen” component.
Evergreen Evergreen product is a piece of content or a program that remains relevant & valuable for a long time without requiring significant updates. An evergreen product can be sold over & over again for years.
Scalable Scalable business has the potential to grow revenue exponentially without a corresponding proportional increase in costs. This allows for massive growth & profitability over time.

How to Use
Instead of viewing DARES as a checklist where a business must score a “yes” for every item, it’s meant to be a Strategic Filter. You decide which of the criteria are most important to You & Your Overall Objectives. For example, a subscription service is recurring but not truly evergreen, since customers will eventually expect new content. An evergreen book, on the other hand, is digital but not recurring, as it is a one-time purchase. By weighing the different DARES elements, entrepreneurs can better align their business model with their Personal, Professional & Financial Aspirations.
