One of the most ancient skills of providing food for the family and keeping them safe is the art of archery.
It is simple in one sense, you simply have to shoot an arrow at whatever you want to hit.
In order for that to happen, there’s a number of factors that must all come together. Strength of the bow, straightness and strength of the arrows, flow of the airw through the fletchings, type of arrowhead, distance to the target, wind and weather conditions just to name a few.
If one looks at archery through time, it has evolved like everything else. Modern equipment is made of high tension alloys, ultra lightweight impervious to weather and very durable. They’re are also modern range finding and sighting methods.
One thing that is still the same is that practice is important. You may find yourself shooting uphill, downhill or through some set of obstacles.
The more chances you have to shoot at different types of targets in different situations, the more likely you will be able to hit a target in any situation. Over time with many years of practice, archers tend to not have as much problem with the left and right anymore, but just with high and low.
We will list some common gear and tools to get started here. One of the most important things in archery is breath control. See our breathing page to learn about different options.
Good luck at becoming a modern-day Robin Hood.
